ABOUT THE GOLA FOUNDATION
Founded in Liberia's Gola region by a Peace Corps forestry volunteer and a local Liberian mother and entrepreneur, The Gola Foundation is a grass-roots, community-based organization. The Gola Foundation uses a community approach to facilitate the academic success and career development of Liberia's most needy and vulnerable young people through partnerships that provide mentoring, academic advising, tutoring, financial aid, scholarships and other supports.

In its first month The Gola Foundation funded school fees for two local children who were unable to attend school because their mother could not afford the fees and supported two students of the Forestry Training Institute who also could not afford their school fees and were facing the prospect of having to withdraw. The FTI students connected weekly with the two local children to provide mentoring and tutoring support. And two recent FTI graduates who were unemployed are now working as teaching assistants, their salaries paid by the Foundation in a partnership with FTI, which is covering their room and board on campus.

Since that time The Gola Foundation has financially supported the education of scores of children in the Gola region.
